WUSTL joins forces with St. Louis Winter Outreach to keep homeless warm

This year, members of the WUSTL community can lend a hand to the many St. Louisans who find themselves homeless – and freezing cold. The Community Service Office is again partnering with the St. Louis Winter Outreach team, and there are a number of ways WUSTL community members can get involved.

Forum focuses on homeless winter outreach

LuAnn Oros, community consultant on hunger and homelessness in the Community Service Office, will lead a discussion about the challenges homeless individuals face during extreme temperatures. This open forum will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, in the Danforth University Center Millstone Visitors Center on the first floor.

Homeless for the holidays

Alcohol and drug abuse remain the biggest problems among homeless individuals.The homeless population is changing. In the days of the Great Depression, many homeless people were victims of bad luck and a worse economy. But after studying St. Louis’ homeless population since the 1980’s, experts at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis say the problem has become more complex in recent times.
