John C. (Jack) Danforth, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations since July 1, will deliver a major policy address that will focus on his vision of the United Nations’ role in working to resolve international crises. He will speak at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, in Graham Chapel at Washington University in St. Louis. The event is open only to the Washington University community, including students, faculty, staff and alumni.

Jack Danforth to discuss his new book, Faith & Politics

The Danforth Lecture Series continues on Monday, October 16 with a program featuring John Danforth on “Faith and Politics,” the title of his new book. The event is free and open to the public. It will be held at 4 p.m. in Graham Chapel. In his book, the three-term former Republican senator from Missouri and ordained Episcopal priest calls for moderation and tolerance in religious and political life, and a return to the separation of church and state. Decrying the narrow interpretations of religious orthodoxy, he supports an inclusive philosophy that embraces conflicting opinions and beliefs. A booksigning/reception will follow in Holmes Lounge.

Washington University’s Hilltop Campus officially takes the name “Danforth Campus” during a dedication ceremony recognizing the role that Chancellor Emeritus William H. “Bill” Danforth, the late Elizabeth “Ibby” Gray Danforth, the Danforth family and the Danforth Foundation have played in the evolution of Washington University in St. Louis. The ceremony is from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, in Graham Chapel.
