Missouri Botanical Garden

Botanists have organized to try to stem the frightening loss of plant species across the globe. How well are they doing? They recently met in St. Louis to exchange stories from the botanical front lines.

A new book, “The Missouri Botanical Garden Climatron: A Celebration of 50 Years,” by Eric Mumford, Ph.D., professor of architecture at Washington University in St. Louis, chronicles the history and significance of the St. Louis landmark. In 1976, the Climatron was named one of the most important buildings in American architectural history by the American Institute of Architects.

Peter H. Raven, Ph.D., the George Engelmann Professor of Botany in Arts & Sciences and director and president of the Missouri Botanical Garden, will present a talk on “A Sustainable World: What It Means to Us” at 2 p.m. Friday, April 18, in Whitaker Hall auditorium on the Danforth Campus at Washington University in St. Louis.

KleinJohn E. Klein, currently chairman and former president and chief executive officer of Bunge North America, Inc., will become the new executive vice chancellor for administration at Washington University in St. Louis, according to Mark S. Wrighton, chancellor. The appointment is effective Sept. 1.
