Washington University in St. Louis’ Olin Business School, in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) in Herzliya, Israel, and Onward Israel, is launching an Israel Summer Business Academy, aimed at providing students an opportunity to learn firsthand about business in Israel, one of the most vibrant hubs of entrepreneurship in the world.

What do beer industry giant Tsingtao and the midwest’s handcrafted Schlafly brewery have in common? Hops, barley and business school.  Schlafly’s brewmaster and Tsingtao’s president are recent graduates of Olin Business School’s Executive MBA program that provides a unique experience for students to network with peers around the globe and share stories from the executive suite over a glass of beer.

Lingxiu Dong, PhD, professor of operations and manufacturing management at Olin Business School, is passionate about making a difference in real-world business practices. Her research seeks solutions to problems managers face when juggling all the links in complicated supply chains.

The second annual Leaders in Business Summit sponsored by Deloitte and the Olin Business School was held at Washington University in St. Louis Sept. 28. Sustainability, energy policy, corporate social responsibility and management strategies to navigate volatile times were among the topics on the day-long agenda which included a presentation by St. Louis Federal Reserve Bank President and CEO James Bullard and an address by renowned pollster John Zogby.

The financial crisis and recession have changed the global economy and the way business works. Figuring out the “new normal” economy is challenging managers everywhere to develop new strategies and initiatives. Olin Business School is offering three new programs to sharpen professionals’ skills as they navigate the uncharted waters of the “new normal” economy.

First year MBA students at Olin get a head start on the school year with a two week boot camp that involves serious academic work, team building exercises, career counseling and socializing. Jackson Nickerson, PhD, the Frahm Family Professor of Organization & Strategy, greeted the class with this challenge: “I dare you to take full responsibility to transform your thinking and change your life forever.”  Nickerson teaches a course in critical thinking custom-designed for Olin students.

The health care industry needs managers with a strong foundation in business and public policy. A new dual degree from WUSTL is designed to prepare students to meet the challenges of complex companies across the health care spectrum. Details of the new MBA/MPH graduate program offered by the Brown School and Olin Business School are announced today.

The new era of healthcare reform is demanding a new hybrid in leadership: executives who can bridge the worlds of business and public healthcare policy.  To meet the growing needs of an ever more complex health care sector, Washington University in St. Louis is launching a new dual degree program.  The MBA/MPH degree will offer the best in business administration and public health to prepare tomorrow’s leaders in the field of healthcare.

At age 84, James Martin Wybar of Philadelphia was the first in line to receive his diploma at Olin Business School’s 2010 Commencement May 21. Wybar is the oldest graduate in the school’s history. He finished his courses in 1947, but didn’t have time to collect his diploma until this year.
