Big data, big interest
Crunching big data, especially from social networking sites, is one of the hottest areas of study in business schools right now. A new center at Washington University in St. Louis is teaching students best practices when it comes to data mining and analysis. Seethu Seetharaman, PhD, the W. Patrick McGinnis Professor of Marketing, is the center’s director.
Finance summer school at Olin attracts best, brightest
Olin Business School at Washington University in St. Louis is hosting seven of the nation’s top finance scholars for an intensive, four-day program geared for doctoral business students and university faculty. More than 130 participants from across the nation and around the world will gather on the Danforth Campus Aug. 12-15 for a program called “Summer School: Financial Intermediation and Contracting,” a chance to learn from some of the brightest and best-regarded minds in the field.

Olin Business School and the Human Rights Campaign — the largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans — hosted an LGBT Workplace Inclusion Conference at Washington University in St. Louis on Aug. 14.
Brookings descendant visits campus

Olin launches executive education programs in Kansas City
Olin Business School is taking its executive education programs on the road and due west on I-70. Destination: Kansas City. Senior faculty will offer the same top-ranked seminars and the 20-month Executive MBA degree program to Kansas City-based professionals as those offered on the St. Louis campus. Olin’s executive MBA program was established in 1983 and has been offered in conjunction with Fudan University in Shanghai, China since 2002.
