Liu installed as Fossett Distinguished Professor
Hong Liu, professor of finance and director of the master’s in finance program at Washington University’s Olin Business School, has been installed as the Fossett Distinguished Professor. Liu, whose research focuses on asset pricing and market microstructures, has served as a member of the Olin faculty since 1998.
Strassmann installed as Charles Rebstock Professor of Biology
Biologist Joan E. Strassmann, PhD, was installed Jan. 23 as the Charles Rebstock Professor of Biology in Arts & Sciences in a ceremony in Holmes Lounge. Following the formal installation, Strassmann gave an entertaining talk about a high-stakes gamble she and Queller made 15 years ago: to switch from studying cooperation and conflict in social insects, famous for their complex societal arrangements, to studying it in an amoeba, whose claim to fame had been its simple lifestyle.
McCarthy installed as new Spencer T. Olin professor
Mathematician John E. McCarthy, PhD, was installed March 2 as the Spencer T. Olin Professor in Arts & Sciences
in a ceremony in Holmes Lounge. Following the formal installation and the presentation
of the professorship medallion, McCarthy spoke on “Why Pure Mathematics
Matters.”
Fricks endow professorship in Olin School; Zenger named initial holder
Alumnus Robert Frick and his wife Barbara have established a professorship in the Olin School of Business. Todd Zenger, authority on business strategy and organizational design, will be formally installed as the first holder.
