Graham Colditz, MD, DrPH, a disease-prevention expert at Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, will receive a national award for his contributions to cancer prevention research.

Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon signed legislation Wednesday, March 19, on the Medical Campus to increase the affordability and accessibility of oral chemotherapy medications. ​

​Graham Colditz, MD, DrPH, a disease-prevention expert at Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, will receive the 2014 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)–American Cancer Society Award.​

Washington University Medical Center is sharing a first look at its future landscape with renderings of the new Barnes-Jewish Hospital north campus tower and St. Louis Children’s Hospital expansion. The first phase of the Campus Renewal Project includes an expansion of Siteman Cancer Center, surgical programs, diagnostics and services for women and infants.

​John DiPersio, MD, PhD, chief of the Division of Oncology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, and Robert Schreiber, PhD, director of the school’s Center for Human Immunology and Immunotherapy Programs, will be honored in April by the American Association for Cancer Research.

Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine is today among the most recognized cancer programs in the U.S. The longstanding support of Alvin Siteman (left) and his wife, Ruth, whose $35 million gift named the center in 1999, has been critical. ​In a world’s first, physicians at Siteman Cancer Center have begun treating patients using MRI-guided radiation therapy, a technology that allows tumors to be visualized during treatment. Shown is Wayne Kestler, 80, one of the first patients treated with the new technology.

The S. Lee Kling Proton Therapy Center at Washington University Medical Center has begun treating patients with cancer near vital organs such as the spine, brain, heart and eyes. The center is the only one within 225 miles that offers proton therapy, a highly accurate radiation treatment.

Cancer genetic counselor Jennifer Ivanovich helps bridge the gap between what genome sequencing can tell patients and what patients and their families want to know.

Fighting cancer requires a team of medical experts. But for many patients, another key team member is a licensed clinical psychologist. Siteman Counseling Service at Siteman Cancer Center provides free therapy to help patients cope.
