University College — the adult, evening and continuing education division in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis — will host a Preview Night at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, in Holmes Lounge in Ridgley Hall. Preview Night features speakers who will discuss class and program offerings, admissions requirements and financial aid. Spring semester classes at University College start Jan. 18, 2011.

WUSTL’s University College will host “The Future of Sports,” a panel discussion featuring Bob Costas, Bill James and other sports experts and historians, at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29, in Graham Chapel. The panel discussion is free and open to the public. The panelists will discuss topics ranging from performance-enhancing drugs to the collective-bargaining negotiations in the National Football League to the potential rise of soccer in the United States.

M.I.L.D. — an annual event sponsored by University College, the continuing education and professional studies division in Arts & Sciences — is a takeoff of the student event W.I.L.D. (Walk In, Lay Down).

Washington University in St. Louis will offer a master of science in biology degree specifically for in-service teachers through University College, its adult, evening and continuing education division in Arts & Sciences. Faculty created and piloted the degree with 90 biology teachers nationwide as a National Science Foundation teacher institute.

University College, the continuing education and professional studies division in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, will host a symposium titled “The Sustainability Challenge: Local to Global” at 7 p.m. Oct. 26 in Steinberg Auditorium. The symposium will feature experts from Washington University and the greater St. Louis region as they discuss questions and challenges facing the environment, community development and organizational life.

University College, the adult, evening and continuing education division at Washington University in St. Louis, will participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program beginning this fall, allowing eligible U.S. veterans to attend University College with no out-of-pocket expenses for tuition or fees.

WUSTL’s Lifelong Learning Institute — a community outreach education program for seniors that offers a variety of non-credit academic courses — celebrates its 15th anniversary this spring. LLI courses emphasize peer learning and active class participation.  

There’s not much Jerome Levy, MD, 75, who graduates May 21 with a Master of Liberal Arts degree in Arts & Sciences, isn’t interested in knowing — and doing. That’s why Levy, emeritus professor of surgery, has been chosen by the Record as an Outstanding Graduate in University College.

Sustainability is a complicated and pressing topic that spans many fields and has many implications — personal, social, national and global. The 2010 MLA Saturday Lecture Series, sponsored by the master of liberal arts program of University College in Arts & Sciences, will explore topics relating to sustainability, a key element in Washington University’s education and research agenda.

Working professionals looking to develop their writing and communication skills can now earn a Certificate in Strategic Communication at University College, Washington University in St. Louis’ adult, continuing-education division of Arts & Sciences. The new, 21-credit program features courses in writing and strategic communication taught by well-known communication professionals in the St. Louis area.
