Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3, and the Washington University in St. Louis Athletic Complex is ready to welcome students, faculty and staff who are registered to vote in St. Louis County. Polls open at 6 a.m Tuesday and will remain open until all voters in line by 7 p.m. have voted. Daily self-screening and face masks will be required.
Athletic Complex to serve as safe, convenient polling location
The Athletic Complex once again will serve as the on-campus polling location at Washington University. Students who live on the South 40 and in the Village may vote at the Athletic Complex between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. Nov. 3. And, for the first time, so may any students, faculty and staff who are approved to be on campus and live in St. Louis County.
University student turnout spiked in 2018 midterm elections
Voter turnout among Washington University in St. Louis students leaped to 41.8% in the 2018 midterm elections, more than double the 2014 midterm voting rate of 15.9%, according to a national study of campus voting rates by Tufts University’s Institute for Democracy & Higher Education.
Washington University designated ‘Voter-Friendly Campus’
Washington University in St. Louis has been designated a “Voter-Friendly Campus” by the Campus Vote Project and NASPA – Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education for its success in increasing voter registration, education and turnout.
WashU Votes to register voters this week
In 2014, only 15.7 percent of students voted in the midterms. The Gephardt Institute for Civic and Community Engagement, through its WashU Votes initiative, wants to increase that number to 20 percent through a number of programs and initiatives starting Monday, Sept. 24, with National Voter Registration Week.
