Anthony Tillman, assistant provost at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, has been appointed an associate provost. When Tillman joins Washington University this summer, he will coordinate programs to support low-income and first-generation students.

The School of Medicine and Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital are offering a newly approved, nonsurgical therapy to help people lose weight. Shelby Sullivan, MD, said the therapy involves placing special balloons into the stomach and inflating them to give patients the feeling of being full after eating small meals.

Clayco’s chairman and CEO, Robert G. Clark, along with the company’s partners, have committed $4.1 million to the School of Medicine to advance research led by John P. Atkinson, MD, into a rare blood vessel disease that results in death five to 10 years following diagnosis.

Richard W. Davis, PhD, professor emeritus of history in Arts & Sciences, died Dec. 25, 2015, while receiving hospice care at Laclede Groves in St. Louis. He was 80.
