The newest members of the inaugural Danforth Staff Council have been selected from a pool of more than 70 applicants. The 10 members join the 15 founding members of the council to form the inaugural cohort. The 25-member council held its first meeting this week.

Most cancers caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) are preventable with a vaccine. Yet the infection is responsible for 27,000 cancer diagnoses each year in the U.S. Now Siteman Cancer Center is joining with other National Cancer Institute-Designated Cancer Centers to promote HPV vaccination.

With more computing going to the cloud, new challenges have emerged in computer response times. Addressing such challenges is critical for systems that require real-time certainty, such as safety features in cars. Chenyang Lu and Christopher Gill, of the School of Engineering & Applied Science, received $610,330 from the Office of Naval Research to continue their work.

The School of Law has expanded its partnership with China’s Fudan University Law School. Students from that university can enroll in a dual-degree program, studying for two years at Fudan and then pursuing a Master of Laws for one year here. Faculty from both universities also can participate in visiting scholar programs.

The Brown School has launched a 3-2 Master of Public Health program. Designed for Washington University undergraduates, the program allows students to earn both an undergraduate degree and a master’s in public health in five years. It is available to students pursuing any undergraduate major in Arts & Sciences.
