Quasar outburst revises understanding of universe, quasars

An outburst from a distant quasar last spring allowed astronomers at the gamma-ray telescope VERITAS to measure the density of the optical “fog” that lies between the quasar and Earth. Among the scientists was Manel Errando, of Arts & Sciences.

Independent review of WUPD shows policing practices a national model

An independent, high-level review of the Washington University Police Department’s (WUPD) policing practices was conducted last summer. The recently released findings show the department’s Fair and Impartial Policing policy is a national model for other law enforcement.

WashU Expert: Big stakes in Supreme Court decision to hear immigration case

The U.S. Supreme Court agreed last week to hear United States v. Texas, the challenge brought by 26 states to President Barack Obama’s executive actions on immigration. The stakes could not be larger, and they are not limited to immigration, said immigration law expert Stephen Legomsky.

New outpatient care center under construction in south St. Louis County

The School of Medicine and Barnes-Jewish Hospital are building a new outpatient facility in south St. Louis County. The two-story facility — the Center for Advanced Medicine-South County — will provide a wide range of medical services, including outpatient surgery, physical therapy, mammography and other imaging.
