Women who wait to have children lose less income

Working women who want to minimize career income losses related to motherhood should wait until they are about 30 to have a child, new university research suggests. The findings hold true whether or not a woman has a college degree.

University joins Silk Road alliance

Washington University is the first North American member of the University Alliance of the Silk Road at Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) in China. XJTU also joins the McDonnell International Scholars Academy.

‘Religion in the Public Sphere’ forum April 25

The intersection of religious belief with reproductive rights, environmental concerns, foreign policy and other global issues will be among topics discussed as the university and the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting host a public forum April 25.

Thurtene returns this weekend

Thurtene, the oldest student-run carnival in the nation, returns to campus this weekend. New this year: A replica Busch Stadium, complete with turf and outfielders, where kids can play whiffle ball.

Register now for kids’ summer sports camps

The Athletics Department reminds the university community that it offers a variety of sports camps for children during the summer. There are programs for kids from 6 years old through high school, and from one-day to weeklong sessions.

Vote to help grad student startup win competition

Pro-Arc Diagnostics, a company founded by graduate student Michelle Faits and doctoral candidate Dana Watt, made it into the Rice Business Plan Competition. Vote by Saturday, April 16, to help it win funding.

‘SJR 39 will hurt Missourians and Missouri companies’

Washington University leaders joined with several Missouri business leaders in an op-ed in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch criticizing a proposed constitutional amendment being debated at the state Capitol. The measure would allow people and businesses to not serve same-sex weddings if they have religious objections. Business leaders argue the measure would harm the state’s economy.

Connie Zhou playing golfGolf team captain Connie Zhou has seen her share of challenges in the classroom and on the fairway, and navigating the peaks and valleys of being a student-athlete has prepared her well for her next stage.
