Antibodies identified that thwart Zika virus infection

Scientists at the School of Medicine have identified antibodies capable of protecting against Zika virus infection, a significant step toward developing a vaccine, better diagnostic tests and possibly new antibody-based therapies.

Taking out the trash

Autophagy (self eating) has long been considered an indiscriminate process of cellular waste disposal. Now, Arts & Sciences researchers have shown it is typically carefully regulated. The finding is relevant to pathologies such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.

Liu installed as Fossett Distinguished Professor

Hong Liu, professor of finance and director of the master’s in finance program at Olin Business School, has been installed as the Fossett Distinguished Professor. Liu’s research focuses on asset pricing and market microstructures.

A Missouri high school student curious about Ebola virus spent part of her senior year in the School of Medicine lab of Gaya Amarasinghe, researching how the virus causes disease.

Memorial service set for Jessie Ternberg

A memorial service for Jessie L. Ternberg, PhD, MD, professor emerita at the School of Medicine, will be held at 1 p.m. Sept. 25 at the Missouri Botanical Garden. Ternberg, 92, died July 9.

Answer: D) Tug-of-war, which was a popular event at the Olympic Games from 1900 until 1920. In 1904, the men of the Milwaukee Athletic Club claimed the gold medal.
