Marshall, Stormo to receive faculty achievement awards

Washington University professors Fiona Marshall and Gary Stormo will receive 2019 awards for faculty achievement, while Yoram Rudy will be honored for innovation and entrepreneurship, Chancellor Andrew D. Martin announced.

$9.5 million aimed at detecting autism earlier

School of Medicine researchers are leading a multicenter team conducting research to evaluate whether brain imaging might help reveal risk for autism spectrum disorder in early infancy.

Parking and Transportation announces shuttle design

Parking and Transportation Services has unveiled the winning designs for campus shuttles, debuting this fall. Parking officials also remind the campus community to buy parking permits and renew U-Passes.

Center helps Nebraska add college savings plan

Nebraska’s legislature, assisted by research and guidance from the Brown School’s Center for Social Development, approved a universal Child Development Account policy that will cover every resident born in the state on or after Jan. 1, 2020.

Kelley Mullen, faculty practice senior director, 57

Kelley Mullen photoKelley Ann Mullen, senior director of scheduling services and service quality for the School of Medicine’s faculty practice, died at her home May 21, 2019, after a brief illness. A deeply kind, calming and dedicated leader, Mullen was beloved by her colleagues. She was 57.


Caitlyn Collins, assistant professor of sociology in Arts & Sciences, is one of 10 junior faculty nationwide selected as a 2019 Nancy Weiss Malkiel Scholar by The Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation.

Michael Fogarty, who graduated in May with a dual degree in political science and in economics, both in Arts & Sciences, has received the university’s Grossman-Alexander Prize.

Field House in 2002Question: The Field House witnessed the final game of what major-league sports team in 1960?
Answer: B) The Minneapolis Lakers’ final game was a 97-86 loss to the St. Louis Hawks at Washington University in March 1960. This summer, fans can enjoy pro basketball of another sort. The St. Louis women’s pro team St. Louis Surge is playing in the Field House in June and July.
Congrats to this week’s winner, Savannah Davis, who works in the Department of Psychiatry at the School of Medicine and will receive an “I Knew WashU” luggage tag!
