Clinical, translational research receives $61M grant

The School of Medicine has received a $61 million grant renewal for its Institute of Clinical and Translational Sciences to support such research across the region. The ICTS has played a central role in the school’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Parents’ mental health worse during pandemic, study finds

Hybrid school during the COVID-19 pandemic was associated with worse parental mental health, as was working from home, finds a new study led by Sarah Moreland-Russell at the Brown School.

Five to receive honorary degrees

The university will award five honorary degrees during Commencement Friday, May 20. Among the recipients is Mae Jemison, MD, who will deliver the Commencement address. Jemison was the first woman of color to become a NASA astronaut and to travel into space.

Lenze named head of Department of Psychiatry

Eric J. Lenze, MD, a leader in the treatment of psychiatric disorders in older adults, has been named head of the Department of Psychiatry at the School of Medicine. He will begin his new role Aug. 1.

The Department of Biology in Arts & Sciences announced the winners of its annual awards. Ethan Lowder, a December 2021 graduate who majored in the biochemistry track, won the Ralph S. Quatrano Prize; Kayla Wallace, a senior majoring in environmental biology, received the Spector Prize.
