‘Beauty in Enormous Bleakness’ at Olin Library

‘Beauty in Enormous Bleakness’ at Olin Library

“Beauty in Enormous Bleakness,” an exhibition highlighting the design legacy of Japanese American architects in the wake of World War II-era internments, is on view through July 9 in Olin Library’s Thomas Gallery. A related symposium, “Moonscape of the Mind,” will take place today and Friday, April 14.

Thurtene Carnival returns

4 p.m. Friday, April 14–8 p.m. Sunday, April 16

Thurtene Carnival, the nation’s oldest and largest student-run carnival, returns to Washington University this weekend. The event will feature thrill rides, fair food, carnival games and student performances. Next to Francis Olympic Field.

WashU Giving Day

Wednesday, April 19

WashU will host the first universitywide Giving Day, a 24-hour fundraising blitz to encourage community members to give to any area of the university. The day will include activities at various locations across the Danforth Campus.

Spring Ensemble inaugural concert

6:30–8:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 19

The Spring Ensemble will present a concert of Chinese traditional music for the first time on campus. The student group hopes the concert, which will showcase their musical culture, will be held annually. Danforth University Center, Tisch Commons.

Public tour: ‘Power of Place’

Join the Kemper Art Museum for a tour of a collection designed to prompt discussion and reflection on the power of place in relation to works by exceptional artists as well as early travel photography. Student educators will lead the tour at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 22. Tours also will be offered in May and July.
