‘Santiago Sierra’ exhibit opens Feb. 23

“Santiago Sierra: 52 Canvases Exposed to the Mexico City Air” will open Feb. 23 at the Kemper Art Museum. The installation highlights the contaminants — the ozone, carbon monoxide, and sulfur and nitrogen oxides — that can slowly but surely poison urban environments. The exhibition opening also will launch the campus series “Ecology Now! Art + Humanities in the Anthropocene.”

Poet and translator Mona Kareem will join Safa Khatib, a doctoral candidate in comparative literature in Arts & Sciences, for a conversation on Kareem’s poetry books. Olin Library, Ginkgo Reading Room.

WashU Neighborhood CARE will host Neighbor’s Day at the Bears basketball doubleheader. The university community is invited to enjoy free admission, snacks and family fun. Athletic Complex.



Coral Courts Lecture: Fernanda Canales

5:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19

Architect Fernanda Canales will be the guest lecturer in the Sam Fox School’s Public Lecture Series. Canales is based in Mexico City and committed to design, urban planning and research. Steinberg Hall Auditorium.

‘Homage’ traveling Black history exhibit

The Department of African and African-American Studies in Arts & Sciences, the Center for Diversity and Inclusion, and the offices of Institutional Equity and of Supplier Diversity join together to present a journey through Black history and culture. The exhibit will be on display noon-6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, in Holmes Lounge, Ridgley Hall.
