PAD presents first live performance of pandemic era

“Hey God, why did you create COVID-19?” So asks Lucifer in “The Covid Mysteries,” an irreverent take on the 14th-century York Mysteries cycle. The new play — the first campus performing arts event for a live audience in more than a year — will take place today through Sunday, April 1-4, on Mudd Field.

Arts & Sciences welcomes Harvard University’s Walter Johnson for a talk on his book “The Broken Heart of America: St. Louis and the Violent History of the United States” for this year’s Faculty Book Celebration. Johnson’s book explores racism and capitalism in the nation’s past.

‘Belonging in Opera’ symposium

The Center for the Study of Race, Ethnicity & Equity is partnering with the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis to highlight Black composers and the future of Black creativity in opera. Naomi André at the University of Michigan will lead the event, which continues April 13.

The School of Medicine’s Karen E. Joynt Maddox, MD, an expert in hospital and health-system efficiency, will share the next steps of Medicaid expansion and its implications for the community.

Data/bias informatics symposium

8:45 a.m.–12:15 p.m. Friday, April 9

The Institute for Informatics and the Department of Medicine present the institute’s annual symposium, which will focus on data and bias. U.S. Rep. Cori Bush will provide opening remarks. Rachel Gold, at Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research, will give the Bohigian Lecture on “Social Determinants of Health.”

Bush to address climate change

5–6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 7

Washington University will partner with the University of Missouri-St. Louis to present the Missouri Climate Dialogues webinar with a presentation titled “Green Recovery, Climate Solutions and a Just Transition.” U.S. Rep. Cori Bush will give the keynote on the next steps for Missouri in addressing climate change, followed by a panel discussion.
