Two student leaders poised to speak at Commencement on Friday

Medical student Alexandra Keane and Senior Class President Joey Vettiankal will give the graduate and undergraduate student speeches at the universitywide Commencement ceremony Friday, May 17. As a student, Keane has focused on academics, athletics and advocacy. Vettiankal will urge classmates to be change-makers in the world.

Gene therapy discussion

4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 16

The School of Medicine’s David Curiel, MD, PhD, will discuss his development of a novel strategy for gene therapy to treat a range of inherited diseases. Fellow faculty member Toni Pearson, MD, will discuss her work with gene vector therapy to treat children with a rare brain disorder. Venture Café, 4240 Duncan Ave.

Celebrate staff achievements and work anniversaries, connect with colleagues or try something new on Staff Day. From athletic pursuits to performances to campus tours, there’s something for everyone. Opening and closing events are at the Field House.

The Center for Diabetes Translation Research and the National Congress of American Indians Policy Research Center present an interactive learning experience with resources to strengthen governance, trust and culture in research partnerships. Hillman Hall, Room 120.

‘Ken Botnick: Making Books by Hand’ on display

The exhibit by Ken Botnick, professor at the Sam Fox School, is on display through June in Olin Library’s Newman Tower of Collections. The exhibit showcases his innovative experiments in printing and typography and features books made in collaboration with writers Mary Jo Bang and William Gass.
