Public Health & Society program launches

A new Arts & Sciences program, Public Health & Society, will leverage WashU’s institutional strength in public health. The undergraduate minor will begin this fall and underscore the role of societal inequalities in health outcomes. A major is expected to launch in fall 2025.

Diwan named inaugural Shaeffer professor

Abhinav Diwan, MD (center), a highly regarded cardiologist with expertise in the molecular underpinnings of cardiovascular disease, has been named the inaugural Charlie W. Shaeffer, MD, Professor of Cardiology at the School of Medicine.

Kweskin to retire as executive vice chancellor for finance

Amy Kweskin, executive vice chancellor for finance and chief financial officer at WashU, will retire from the university at the end of the calendar year, after 27 years of service, announced Chancellor Andrew D. Martin.

Researchers at the McKelvey School of Engineering, led by Randall Martin, investigated global particulate matter, revealing health risks from trace elements. Their work, published in ES&T Air, produced a valuable dataset to identify regions with elevated trace elements.

Eduardo Slatopolsky, emeritus professor of medicine, 89

Eduardo Slatopolsky, MD, a pioneering physician-scientist and a professor emeritus of nephrology at the School of Medicine, died peacefully April 24 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. He was 89. He leaves behind a legacy of major contributions to his field.
