‘A moment the nation was waiting for’

Washington University last night hosted what pundits and politicians alike called one of the most historic presidential debates in history. Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump faced off in front of hundreds of students, politicians and dignitaries.

Witnessing a ‘historic moment’

As the eyes of the world were focused on Washington University, here’s what one set of eyes inside the debate hall observed.

It’s ‘game day’

The university got a taste of game-day excitement when national media set up stages around campus, and student band members, cheerleaders and the Bear performed for morning crowds.

Winning the debate lottery

The university was given 352 tickets by the Commission on Presidential Debates, and it distributed all of them yesterday to lucky students, who were selected via a lottery system.

Engaging staff support

Staff volunteers are essential for successful debate operations. Whether it’s “another duty as assigned” or not, staff welcomed the opportunity to contribute.

Welcome wagon

On a perfect fall afternoon, the iconic Budweiser Clydesdales helped kick off the presidential debate festivities with a short parade Oct. 7 across the Danforth Campus.
