Major trials underway for therapy developed at WashU

A microbiome-directed food developed at the School of Medicine is now being evaluated in major randomized controlled trials. In addition, a gift from university trustee Andy Newman helped establish a child malnutrition program.

Scientists track red-tailed hawks nesting near campus

Researchers with the Forest Park Living Lab, of which WashU is a partner, have been tracking these two hawks’ movement data since December. Through work tracking a variety of animals, the project is providing a map of health and movement that can guide conservation steps.

Brown School helps train public health workers

The Brown School’s Prevention Research Center works to train public-health practitioners from around the world in evidence-based practices. For decades, the center has trained workers on developing programs that fit their local communities and tackle chronic disease.

Zainab Mahmoud, MD, an instructor at the School of Medicine, has been awarded the Dr. Nanette K. Wenger Research Goes Red Award from the American Heart Association. The award recognizes the top research article that focuses on cardiovascular disease and stroke in women published in an association journal.

Public university directory to remain

WashU’s online directory will remain available after all. The university had announced plans to remove it May 1, but after additional analysis, administrators have determined it is required to conduct university business.
