Donald Stahl, a master’s degree student in University College in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, died March 22 at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond Heights, Mo., after suffering a heart attack on campus. He was 73.

Mark Rollins, professor of philosophy and chair of the Performing Arts Department at Washington University in St. Louis, has been named dean of University College, the professional and continuing education division of Arts & Sciences.

Robert E. Wiltenburg, PhD, who has served as dean of University College in Arts & Sciences for nearly 20 years, has announced that he will step down as dean at the end of the academic year, June 30, 2015, according to Barbara A. Schaal, PhD, dean of the Faculty of Arts & Sciences. After a sabbatical during the fall 2015 semester, Wiltenburg will return to teaching in spring 2016.

Washington University in St. Louis is pleased to announce the first cohort of its College Prep Program, a new multi-year initiative that will prepare high-achieving high school students with limited financial resources for college.

University College — the professional and continuing education division in Arts & Sciences — is hosting Preview Night for the spring 2014 semester at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, in Holmes Lounge, Ridgley Hall, on the Danforth Campus. Doors open at 6 p.m.; a light dinner will be served.

For U.S. veteran Robbie Garrison, ­attending University College tuition-free was a dream come true. “One of my goals was to attend Washington University,” said Garrison, a first-generation college student. “I was not sure how I would afford it, until I learned about the Yellow Ribbon Program.”

University College, the adult, evening and continuing education division in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, has developed three new degree programs, including a master’s in statistics that is the only one offered in the St. Louis area. The other two new  programs are a bachelor’s in communications and a bachelor’s in journalism. University College will offer the new programs this fall semester, which begins Aug. 27.

The program will provide information on tuition, transferring college credits, financial aid, academic advising, and the professional and continuing education programs. Spring classes begin Jan. 14, 2013.
