A groundbreaking ceremony for a new energy, environmental engineering and biomedical engineering building on the Danforth Campus of Washington University in St. Louis was held Wednesday, Oct. 29, on the parking lot adjacent to Whitaker Hall, near the corner of Skinker Boulevard and Forest Park Parkway. The building, which will be named in honor of Stephen F. and Camilla T. Brauer, will be east of and adjoining to Whitaker Hall, home of the biomedical engineering department.

A groundbreaking ceremony for a new energy and environmental engineering building on the Danforth Campus of Washington University in St. Louis will be held Wednesday, Oct. 29, on the parking lot adjacent to Whitaker Hall, near the corner of Skinker Boulevard and Forest Park Parkway, according to Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton. The ceremony will begin at 1 p.m., with the groundbreaking scheduled for 1:45 p.m. The building, which will be named in honor of Stephen F. and Camilla T. Brauer, will be east of and adjoining to Whitaker Hall, home of the biomedical engineering department.
Wang receives Beare professorship
Lihong Wang, Ph.D., became the first Gene K. Beare Distinguished Professor of Biomedical Engineering in a Nov. 29 ceremony.
Saigh Foundation provides gift for distinguished professor; Yoram Rudy installed as initial holder
Yoram Rudy, Ph.D., professor of biomedical engineering in the School of Engineering & Applied Science, has been installed as the inaugural Fred Saigh Distinguished Professor of Engineering. The professorship is the gift of the Saigh Foundation.
Renowned historian of life and biomedical sciences to give Thomas Hall Lecture
Everett Mendelsohn, one of America’s foremost historians of science, will deliver the Thomas Hall Lecture titled “Dolly and the Historians: Science, Politics and Ethics of Cloning” as part of the Washington University Assembly Series at 4 p.m., Thursday, November 13. The lecture is free and open to the public and will be held in Rebstock Hall, Room 215, located just east of Mallinckrodt Center (6445 Forsyth Blvd) on the Washington University campus.
Biomedical Engineering Departments Uncas A. Whitaker Hall is dedicated
The dedication of Uncas A. Whitaker Hall for Biomedical Engineering on Oct. 20, 2003, was a major step forward in a plan begun more than a decade ago to launch a nationally prominent department in this rapidly growing field. It also crystallizes the ongoing collaboration of researchers in the Washington University School of Engineering and Applied Science and the School of Medicine begun more than 40 years ago.
