Senior Hana Greenberg and junior Scott Friedman, both in Arts & Sciences, will gain an inside look at the U.S. political process by participating in a Washington Center educational program focused on the election year. As part of the program, Greenberg will attend the Democratic National Convention in Denver while Friedman will travel to Minneapolis to attend the Republican National Convention. Both will receive media credentials through Student Life, the University’s student newspaper, to have access to exclusive events at the conventions.

The deadline to register for media credentials for the 2008 vice presidential debate at Washington University in St. Louis is Aug. 15. On-site credentialing will not be available. Media can also go to debates.org for Washington University’s rate card, which includes information on ordering everything from satellite truck parking and TV affiliate workspace to a seat in the Media Filing Center and Wi-Fi Internet connection.

Gwen Ifill, a longtime correspondent and moderator for public broadcasting programs The NewsHour and Washington Week, has been selected to moderate the Oct. 2 vice presidential debate at Washington University in St. Louis, the CPD has announced.

Washington University in St. Louis will host the presidential debate scheduled for 8 p.m. CST on Oct. 8, 2004, according to an announcement made today by Paul G. Kirk Jr. and Frank J. Fahrenkopf Jr., co-chairmen of the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD). This is the fourth consecutive time the university has been selected by the CPD to host a debate. The university hosted the first presidential debate held prior to the 1992 election, was selected to host a presidential debate in 1996 that eventually was canceled, and hosted the third and last presidential debate of the 2000 campaign season. “It is an honor and a privilege to once again be chosen to host one of the presidential debates,” said Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton. ”
