Nominations are due Oct. 5 for the 2015 Washington University School of Medicine Samuel R. Goldstein Leadership Awards in Medical Student Education.

Young Scientist Program volunteers Claire Weichselbaum and Brian Lananna, graduate students in the Division of Biology & Biomedical Sciences, were among several YSP volunteers who participated in Family Med School at the St. Louis Science Center. The two demonstrated how lungs function.

An interdisciplinary group of graduate students including Washington University’s (from left) Anurag Agarwal, Whitney Grither and Hirak Biswas was one of 10 winning teams in the Breast Cancer Startup Challenge. The international competition aimed to bring breast cancer discoveries out of the lab and closer to market to help patients.

Fourth-year medical students learned Friday, March 21, where they will go for residency training, the next stage of their careers. The annual event also brought a marriage proposal for one student, to the delight of students gathered for Match Day. Faculty members manned posters highlighting their research at a recent Division of Biology and Biomedical Sciences event geared toward helping graduate students meet faculty and learn about research before signing up for laboratory rotations. The event is an engaging step for students earning their PhDs or MD/PhDs through the Medical Scientist Training Program. Nancy Andrews, MD, PhD, was the keynote speaker at the Medical Scientist Training Program 40th Anniversary Symposium April 9 at the Eric P. Newman Education Center.
