Join us for a fun-filled weekend of friends, nostalgia and celebration. The university invites all alumni to campus April 20–22, 2012, for Alumni Weekend at Thurtene Carnival. The weekend will also commemorate the 1st, 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th, 30th and 35th Reunions for undergraduate alumni from all schools. (This is a change from recent years when only the 1st–15th Reunion classes were held in conjunction with Thurtene Carnival.) Campus events are scheduled for all alumni, including family activities and sessions presented by university faculty. Alumni and their families will enjoy Thurtene Carnival — a long-standing tradition at the university and one of the oldest student-run carnivals in the country.

Commencement Weekend

Why do you volunteer for Washington University?
I found it was an easy way for me to stay connected to the Washington University community. I also felt it was important to give back to the university as it has given me so much.

What do you enjoy most about your current and past volunteer roles?
I think the fact that I have been able to make them my own. A lot of volunteer opportunities are available, and you can choose the specific area you want. There is a lot of flexibility, and university staff members are very willing to work with you. They make it a point to help you with whatever you are trying to do.

What advice would you give to alumni who are considering volunteering at the university?
With so many volunteer options, it is important to pick an area for which you have a passion. If the first opportunity that presents itself to you isn’t exactly what you want to do, you can work with your staff liaison to find something that is a great fit for you. There are plenty of possibilities, so be selective and choose an area or a program that is particularly interesting to you.
