Farshid Guilak, PhD, a professor of orthopaedic surgery at Washington University School of Medicine and director of research at Shriners Hospitals for Children-St. Louis, has received the Basic Science Research Award from the Osteoarthritis Research Society International.

The award recognizes advancement in basic research in the field of osteoarthritis that has been conducted within the last five years. Guilakā€™s research focuses on the biomechanical factors that contribute to the onset and progression of osteoarthritis, with an eye toward development of new drugs and stem cell therapies for the disease.
