Paul Michael Lützeler, the Rosa May Distinguished University Professor in the Humanities in Arts & Sciences and director of the Max Kade Center for Contemporary German Literature in the Department of Germanic Languages & Literatures in Arts & Sciences,  has received the Award for International Exchange from the American Alumni Association of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

Lützeler received the award for his dedication to German-American ‘Völkerverständigung’ and academic exchange, and for his work with the American Associate of Teachers of German (AATG) — especially his founding of Washington University’s European Studies Program and the Max Kade Center. The latter, which Lützeler launched in 1984, remains the only center of its kind in the United States.
