Black Anthology brings Afrofuturism to Edison stage
“Masquerade,” Black Anthology’s 31st annual production, will question past and present ideas of utopia through the lens of Afrofuturism — a genre that fuses black culture with science fiction to create a universe where black identity is both central and celebrated. Black Anthology will be staged at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, and Saturday, Feb. 1, in Edison Theatre.
Black Anthology celebrates 30th anniversary
Black Anthology returns Feb. 1 and 2 to Edison Theatre with its 30th anniversary show, “The Creation,” inspired by James Weldon Johnson’s Harlem Renaissance poem of the same name. Senior Ebby Offord said the show’s staying power reflects the transformative power of art and the persistent challenges that African-American students face.

Class Acts: Schmidt brings ‘listening ear’ as Black Anthology playwright
Class Acts takes a look at John Schmidt, a senior in Arts & Sciences and the white playwright behind this weekend’s Black Anthology. Schmidt also is an editor for Student Life, writer and director for Lunar New Year, a residential advisor and opera singer. Schmidt says his “listening ear” helps him in his various roles. Black Anthology takes place at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 6 and 7.

Black Anthology, in its 21st year as a student-run performance arts show celebrating black culture, will be held at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 5 and 6, in Edison Theatre. The show is held every year in February as a celebration of Black History Month.
