New composting initiatives turn Danforth Campus food waste into fertilizer

WUSTL diners can toss a used napkin and food scraps into a campus compost bin, and 4-6 months later, their trash might be feeding the tulips in front of Brookings Hall. With the help of the WUSTL community, WUSTL Dining Services and the Office of Sustainability are working to turn more food scraps and trash into fertilizer through composting.

Earth Day events April 20-24 on Danforth Campus

Earth Day is Sunday, April 22, and Washington University’s Office of Sustainability is commemorating the day on the Danforth Campus by organizing several events during April, including a bioswale planting, panel discussion and more.

Thurtene, oldest student-run carnival in U.S., begins April 20 on Danforth Campus

Hundreds of Washington University students are working together to host the oldest and largest student-run carnival in the United States. Thurtene Carnival will take place on the university’s Danforth Campus near the intersection of Skinker Boulevard and Forest Park Parkway April 20-22. The carnival features amusement rides, games, fun food and family-friendly plays, musical acts and comedy skits.
