Four School of Medicine researchers were awarded grants from the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Sept. 30 as part of $100 million in grants to scientists worldwide. Helen Piwnica-Worms, M.D., Ph.D., the Gerty T. Cori Professor, Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator in Cell Biology and Physiology and professor of medicine; Loren Michel, M.D., assistant professor of medicine and of cell biology and physiology; and Rebecca Aft, M.D., Ph.D., associate professor of surgery, each received $600,000 grants. William Gillanders, M.D., associate professor of surgery, received a $180,000 grant.
