Nominations sought for service award

Nominations are being accepted through Friday, Feb. 5, for the 2010 Gerry and Bob Virgil Ethic of Service Award.

Founded during Washington University’s Sesquicentennial year of 2003, the Gerry and Bob Virgil Ethic of Service Award annually recognizes a select group of university community members which exemplifies a character of service and giving to the St. Louis region.

Any member of the WUSTL community, past or current, who resides in and serves the St. Louis community, is eligible to receive the award.

Nominations will be accepted until the Feb. 5 deadline, and award recipients will be invited to a dinner in their honor to encourage dialogue and collaboration.

The award committee anticipates a broad range of nominations that define service to the community in many different ways. While the committee is not looking for a specific type of community involvement, characteristics of award honorees might include showing compassion for others; passion for a social, cultural or economic issue; selflessness; a belief in the St. Louis region; or a dedication to serving others.
