Olin launches executive education programs in Kansas City

The Olin Business School is bringing executive education to Kansas City in 2010, ranging from one-day open-enrollment seminars to an Executive MBA degree.

Mahendra Gupta, Ph.D., dean and the Geraldine J. and Robert L. Virgil Professor of Accounting and Management at Olin, welcomes the cross-state outreach as a means to better serve the school’s alumni and other business professionals in Kansas City, who until now had to travel to St. Louis to take advantage of Olin’s programs.

Panos Kouvelis, Ph.D., senior associate dean and professor of operations and manufacturing management, is director of executive programs.

“We are very excited about offering our programs to the Kansas City business community,” Kouvelis said. “Professionals from around the country and around the globe attend our courses in St. Louis and Shanghai, and now we can include our friends across the state in our growing network of business leaders.”

Olin’s executive education programs in Kansas City will offer professionals a variety of opportunities to accelerate career advancement, differentiate business skills, and learn about the latest in management, strategy and leadership.

Three programs are set to launch in Kansas City this year.

Executive MBA program

The nationally recognized Executive MBA curriculum will be offered in a convenient weekend format over 20 months, beginning April 11.

The program will address key management issues such as developing organizational leadership; operating strategically in global and emerging markets; creating a culture of innovation; and generating sustainable, profitable growth.

It will be taught at a location to be determined by faculty uniquely qualified to push conventional boundaries and test new methods. The program will be enriched by collaboration with seasoned peer professionals from diverse functional backgrounds and industries.

Before the program begins, Olin will conduct three information sessions at 6 p.m. Jan. 26, Feb. 16 and March 4 at The Capital Grille in Kansas City.

Thought Leadership Series

Interested Kansas City-area professionals also will be able to participate in two timely business topic discussions with an Olin Business School faculty member. No registration fee is required, but reservations are requested.

The first, “Supply Chain Challenges & Strategies in the Midst of Economic Turbulence,” is at 7:30 a.m. Jan. 20, at the Westin Crown Center, Union Hill Room.

The second, “Is This the End of the Economic Crisis?,” is at 7:30 a.m. Feb. 9 at United Missouri Bank, 1010 Grand Blvd., Auditorium 2, first floor.

Olin Partners’ Program: Executive Education Seminars

Olin will conduct two one-day seminars for senior and mid-level managers from organizations of all sizes. The goal is to provide participants with knowledge and tools about specific business topics to apply immediately in their workplaces.

“Finance for Nonfinancial Managers” will take place from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Feb. 25 at a site to be determined.

“Growth Engine” will take place from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. March 19, also at a site to be determined.
