Cultural Heritage Choir to close celebration of women and diversity at WUSTL

After a week of panels, programs, exhibitions, performances and other events celebrating women and diversity at Washington University, the Woman’s Club of Washington University will present a unique musical experience with a free performance by Linda Tillery and the Cultural Heritage Choir at 8:15 p.m. Saturday, April 10, in the 560 Music Center, located at 560 Trinity Ave. in University City.

The Cultural Heritage Choir is a group of energetic and talented singers who create dynamic rhythms and sparkling vocals. Focusing on the roots of American music, the choir’s repertoire runs the gamut from spirituals, gospel, blues, jazz, funk, soul and hip hop. The six members of the choir will delve deeply into the soul of African-American music and note women’s contributions through song as well as explore West African and Caribbean influences.

Tillery and other members of the group have worked with giants of the recording industry in many genres, from Carlos Santana to Bonnie Raitt to Wilson Pickett.

Another highlight of the evening will be a special guest appearance by WUSTL’s student group, the Visions Gospel Choir, who will join Tillery’s group onstage.

Prior to their Saturday performance, Tillery and her group will present a talk about their work and a mini-performance on campus at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 8, at a location to be determined.
