WUSTL on track to become tobacco-free July 1

Human Resources offers supervisor assistance session April 27

All Washington University in St. Louis campuses will be tobacco-free beginning July 1 — less than 10 weeks from now.

The university continues to offer tobacco-cessation resources for students, faculty and staff. Visit wustl.edu/tobaccofree for cessation programs and information.

To assist supervisors with the transition to a tobacco-free environment, the Office of Human Resources is sponsoring a program titled “The Tobacco-Free Environment: Understanding the Impact” at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 27, in Seigle Hall, Room 304.

During the program, supervisors will have the opportunity to hear from representatives from the Office of Human Resources and from People Resources, the university’s Employee Assistance Program provider.

Presentations will focus on the tobacco-free policy, the supervisor’s role, understanding the side effects of quitting smoking and policy enforcement.

Participants also will receive the Tobacco-Free Toolkit for Supervisors, which includes a copy of the policy, policy enforcement tips and guidelines and several other useful resources.

On-campus tobacco-cessation options

Faculty and staff “Preparing to Quit” and “Freedom From Smoking” programs will resume later this summer.

Betsy Foy, EdD, assistant director of Student Health Services, is available during the summer and throughout the school year to work with students who would like an individualized quitting plan, continued support in quitting, or nicotine replacement medication.
