TIAA-CREF’s Hammond to address post-recession retirement investing

The Office of Human Resources will offer two post-recession retirement investment seminars for WUSTL faculty and staff members Thursday, Oct. 28, and Friday, Oct. 29: “New Rules for Investing” and “Which Way Is Up? — Mapping Your Retirement Strategy in a Post-Recession Economy.”

Brett Hammond, PhD, managing director and chief investment strategist for TIAA-CREF, will lead each seminar. Hammond frequently speaks on issues relating to the macro economy, financial markets and long-term investing and has been featured in many prominent media outlets, including The New York Times, Washington Post, Forbes.com and CNN Money.

‘New Rules for Investing’

During this seminar, Hammond will discuss the new rules for investing wisely in the post-recession recovery period.

Among those rules are:

  • adequately save for retirement;
  • choose investments wisely;
  • firmly maintain an appropriate risk tolerance based on individual needs and goals; and
  • selectively tune out the distractions in the market that may tempt investors away from their long-term plans.

The seminar is scheduled from 3-4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, at the Moore Auditorium on the Medical Campus; and from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, in the May Auditorium, Simon Hall, on the Danforth Campus.

Space is limited. RSVP is required at signup4.net/public/ap.aspx?EID=BRET39E.

‘Which Way Is Up? — Mapping Your Retirement Strategy in a Post-Recession Economy’

During this seminar, Hammond will partner with Alicia Waltenberger, a wealth planning specialist with TIAA-CREF, to take a look at the effects of the upcoming expiration of tax cuts.

Among the issues discussed will be:

  • potential tax law changes;
  • strategies to consider to prepare for these changes;
  • current economic and market landscape; and
  • practical insights on how investors can stay focused on their long-term retirement destination despite uncertainties.

This seminar will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, at the Moore Auditorium on the Medical Campus.

Space is limited. RSVP is required at signup4.net/public/ap.aspx?EID=BRET40E&OID=130.
