Parents and families to visit campus this weekend

The annual Parent & Family Weekend 2010 kicks off on the campus of Washington University in St. Louis Friday, Oct. 22. Myriad activities are planned across campus as parents join their sons and daughters for a peek into their classes, walking tours, open houses, concerts, information sessions and much more.

Parents and families can enjoy a wide variety of activities this weekend, like watching the Bears football team in action on Saturday.

Registration and check-in for parents begins at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 22, in the Women’s Building Formal Lounge. The day will include open classes, walking tours of the Central West End and downtown St. Louis, swing dancing lessons and open houses in various departments, Greek houses and residence halls.

On Saturday, Oct. 23, Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton will give a talk titled “The Undergraduate Experience” at 10 a.m. in Brown Hall, Room 100.

The football game, which begins at 1 p.m. at Francis Field, will feature the Bears taking on Oberlin College. Adult tickets are $5; student admission is free with a WUSTL ID.

A barbecue lunch, including face painting, football toss and pumpkin decorating for children, will start at 11 a.m. outside of the Danforth University Center.

The rest of the day will include tours of campus buildings, a self-guided tour of the Missouri Botanical Garden, the College of Art Fashion Show, a juggling showcase, hypnotist show and a jazz lounge.

Sunday, Oct. 24, begins with a walking tour of Forest Park, followed by brunch at various campus locations.

At 2 p.m., parents and students can watch the Performing Arts Department in Arts & Sciences presentation of The Threepenny Opera in Edison Theatre.
