Rinderer, 40-year employee at the School of Medicine, 88

Dorothy T. Rinderer, an administrative assistant for 40 years in the Dean’s Office at the School of Medicine, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011, at Mary Queen and Mother Center in Shrewsbury, Mo. She was 88.

Rinderer began her 40-year career at the School of Medicine in 1947, working for five deans and three vice chancellors during that time.

John Herweg, MD, who was associate dean of students from 1965-1990, remembers Rinderer as someone who was always friendly and extremely loyal to the School of Medicine and its students.

“Dorothy was always an outgoing facilitator and got things done,” Herweg says. “Occasionally there were times when I needed to talk with Dr. Carl Moore, Dr. Bill Danforth or Dr. Sam Guze, and Dorothy would always find a way to squeeze me into their busy schedule. I considered her a true friend.”

Rinderer is survived by cousins, a goddaughter, friends and caretakers.

Services were held Jan. 5. Memorial contributions may be made to the Scholars in Medicine scholarship program at the School of Medicine, 660 S. Euclid Ave., St. Louis, MO 63110.
