Washington University Opera performs scenes April 22

The Washington University Opera Workshop will perform excerpts from five beloved operas at 8 p.m. Friday, April 22, in the 560 Music Center Ballroom Theater.

The program will highlight comedy and romance with scenes from Elixir of Love (1832) and Don Pasquale (1843) by Gaetano Donizetti (1797-1848); Albert Herring (1947) by Benjamin Britten (1913-76); The Merry Wives of Windsor (1849) by Otto Nicolai (1810-49) and Lakmé (1883) by Leo Delibes (1836-91).

Tim Ocel, lecturer in the Department of Music in Arts & Sciences, directs the performance, with musical direction by senior lecturer Christine Armistead. Pianist will be Sandra Geary, teacher of applied music.

The performance is free and open to the public and is sponsored by the Department of Music. The 560 Music Center is located in University City at 560 Trinity Ave.
