Day of reflection; evening of song

Hundreds of people braved an arctic chill the evening of Feb. 10 to experience the warmth generated by singer/songwriter Carrie Newcomer inside Graham Chapel. During the two-hour music and spoken-word performance, Newcomer sang 10 songs, accompanied by pianist Gary Walters (left) and interspersed with readings by Parker Palmer (right). Earlier in the day, Palmer, best-selling author, educator and founder/senior partner of the Center for Courage & Renewal, delivered a lecture where he encouraged all to embrace democracy with an open heart. Both Assembly Series events were sponsored by the John C. Danforth Center on Religion & Politics, the Gephardt Institute for Public Service and the Office of Residential Life.
