Washington University’s Department of Music in Arts & Sciences will present its annual sing-along of George Frideric Handel’s oratorio Messiah at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, in Graham Chapel. Nicole Aldrich, director of choral activities, directs the program.
The performance, which lasts about an hour, will include the Christmas portion of Messiah as well as the “Hallelujah Chorus.”
Those who wish to may sit in special sections arranged according to voice type (soprano, alto, tenor, baritone), though those who choose not to sing are also welcome to attend. Copies of the music will be available for those who do not bring their own scores.
Soloists for the performance will be soprano Stella Markou, director of vocal studies at the University of Missouri-St. Louis; tenor Anthony Heinemann, a 2012 alumnus; and mezzo-soprano Debra Hillabrand and baritone Nathan Ruggles, both teachers of applied music. Organist will be Mary Hitchcock-Reinhart.
