Skalman established himself as the top cornerback for the Bears in his third season with the Red and Green. He started all 10 games for the Bears and led the squad in interceptions (five) and passes defended (19). A first-team all-University Athletic Association (UAA) selection, Skalman led the UAA and was second in Division III in passes defended. Skalman was also second in the UAA and 47th in NCAA Division III in interceptions.

“Andrew Skalman is really deserving of this honor,” said Washington University head coach Larry Kindbom. “He was a playmaker for us all year, and allowed us to expand our defensive package with his coverage abilities. Andrew is the ultimate in being a successful student-athlete at Washington University.”

He made a career-high four pass break-ups and six tackles against No. 1 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in the season opener, and had a pass break-up in all 10 games played. Skalman has appeared in 22 games with the Red and Green, making 51 tackles and six interceptions.

Washington University finished the 2012 season with a 5-5 overall record and ended the season on a four-game winning streak. The Bears won their ninth University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship with a perfect 3-0 record
