A new digital experience for Washington University

Big changes to university’s home page, other channels

wustl.edu on three mobile devicesWashington University in St. Louis has given a major overhaul to its digital presence, launching an updated wustl.edu, along with a brand new storytelling platform and upgrades to its other digital channels.

The newly redesigned wustl.edu features a visually dynamic home page, highlighted by video scenes that showcase the scenery and vibrant campus life. The update includes reconfigured, simplified navigation geared toward the wide range of audiences that visit the site, inviting users to explore the full breadth of what the university has to offer.

“The process for the redesign was as much ‘science’ as ‘art,’ ” said Jill D. Friedman, vice chancellor for public affairs. “We relied heavily on research, soliciting the input of numerous stakeholder groups to help set the priorities for the site. The end result is not only highly functional for our users, but also beautiful, and representative of who we are as a university. We are exceptionally proud of this collaborative effort and delighted to share it with our community.”

The new wustl.edu is fully responsive and adapts to any mobile device. It also includes improved accessibility features to meet many of the standards set by the Federal Rehabilitation Act. More information about the wustl.edu update is available on a “What’s New” page on the site.

Along with the revamped wustl.edu, the digital reboot also includes the creation of a new storytelling platform, The Source, which is home to three existing channels — the Washington University Newsroom, the daily Record e-newsletter, and Washington Magazine. The Source home page highlights the “best of the best,” showcasing stories from across campus that demonstrate the research, scholarship and creativity that drive the university community every day.

In addition, the Record has also gotten a new look. The daily email, which is distributed each weekday morning to some 40,000 subscribers, has been redesigned with a clean, streamlined presentation.

The Office of Public Affairs welcomes feedback on the redesign. Pop-up boxes are in place on wustl.edu and on The Source to give visitors an easy way to share their thoughts, or comments may be submitted by email to webteam@wustl.edu.
