The Center for Diversity and Inclusion (CDI) is accepting proposals for the inaugural Faculty Fellows & Emerging Scholar-Professional (FFESP) Program for the 2016-17 academic year.
FFESP is an interdisciplinary funding program for teams made up of two faculty members and one graduate or professional student to develop diversity-focused research, events and ongoing engagement experiences.
The proposal deadline is April 15.
“This is great opportunity for the Center for Diversity and Inclusion to establish collaborative relationships with academic partners to further engage students around research-based diversity, identity, and social issues,” said LaTanya Buck, center director.
“The program incentivizes this targeted research and aligns nicely with the center’s mission and each of our pillars.”
According to Buck, examples of interdisciplinary proposals could examine issues such as the school-to-prison pipeline and implications for black and Latino men, or the intersections of queer identity and religious ideologies.
Undergraduate students also may apply to be research interns with the selected FFSEP team.
Proposal requirements:
- Submit a 4-5-page proposal that includes a synopsis of planned research; proposed campus-wide program or programs, i.e. symposia, speakers’ series, seminars, etc.; and a detailed programmatic budget.
- Demonstrate alignment with the Center for Diversity and Inclusion’s mission[ NEED LINK ] and strategic directions and the impact on student learning.
- Include the names and contact information of the interdisciplinary partnership members: two faculty members from different academic units and one graduate or professional student from any unit or either of the faculty member’s unit.
- Show commitment to sharing scholarship with the student and larger university community.
Recipients receive:
- $5,000 faculty stipends ;
- $2,000 graduate or professional student stipends;
- Funding for undergraduate research interns; and
- $15,000 programming budget to advance campus and community dialogue about the research topic.
A selection team comprised of faculty, CDI staff and students will review proposal materials and select the FFESP team for next academic year.
