University launches new website

A new Washington University in St. Louis website, wustl.edu, was launched Aug. 9, following three months of concerted effort and interviews with numerous faculty, staff and student experts on all campuses of the university.

The university website includes new landing pages that guide users to all of the key areas of the university. The website was created by Digital Communications Marketing (DCM) in the Office of Public Affairs.

“We are especially pleased with the input and cooperation provided by so many schools, units, offices and individuals at the university,” says Matt Klawitter, executive director of DCM. “We began working on a new web presence for the university almost a year ago when we realigned the existing home page in anticipation of a completely new configuration, which launched Aug. 9.”

Klawitter co-chaired a university-wide advisory committee that suggested many of the improvements to the site and advised on the expansion of content. The committee was composed of nearly 50 representatives of major stakeholders in the university’s web presence.

In addition, a like number of subject matter experts were interviewed throughout May and June to help generate the information now displayed on the landing pages.

Klawitter describes the new site as a significant commitment to improving the university’s profile among the websites of the institutions to which the university is compared.

“We are particularly grateful for the many staff and students who worked on creating the written content required to successfully launch such a large project,” Klawitter says.
