Washington University Volleyball hosts “Dig for Pink” night Friday, Sept. 27
The Washington University in St. Louis volleyball team will host its annual “Dig for Pink” night during its 7:15 p.m. match against University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Friday, Sept. 27. Prior to Dig for Pink night, the Bears will hold a benefit night at Chill Frozen Yogurt Tuesday, Sept. 24, in Clayton.
Fisher nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year
2013 WUSTL graduate and volleyball player Marilee Fisher has made the initital list of contenders for the 2013 NCAA Woman of the Year Award, the NCAA recently announced. Fisher, who majored in chemistry, in Arts & Sciences, is one of 455 student-athletes across all NCAA divisions and sports vying for the award.
Hoops Day readies campus for Thurtene Carnival
Despite a snow storm, students came out for Hoops Day March 24, sponsored by Thurtene Junior Honorary, a lead-up event to the annual carnival. Organizers offered a youth basketball clinic and a 3-on-3 tournament at the Athletic Complex.
Project Blacktop: Student athlete Cooney works to make a difference in St. Louis
Student athlete Tim Cooney grew up in St. Louis and rarely had a place where his friends could gather and play a pickup game of basketball. Cooney, a junior guard on the WUSTL men’s basketball team, is trying to change that for future generations.

Sophomore forward Melissa Gilkey scored 18 of her game-high 22 points in the first half to lead the No. 3 women’s basketball team to a 96-67 victory at the University of Chicago in the University Athletic Association (UAA) opener for both teams Saturday in the Windy City.

The No. 5 women’s basketball team improved to 6-1 with a pair of wins over Millikin University (71-42) and Augustana College (74-61) last week.

The No. 10 men’s basketball team captured the 29th annual Lopata Classic with a 67-57 win over No. 7 Illinois Wesleyan University Saturday at the Field House.

The University Athletic Association announced that 20 WUSTL former student-athletes — 10 men and 10 women — have been named to its 25th-anniversary basketball teams.
