Robert L. Barrack, MD, the Charles F. and Joanne Knight Distinguished Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, was appointed a member-at-large of the board of The Hip Society. In addition, he also was appointed to the board of The Knee Society and will serve as treasurer. The Hip Society and The Knee Society are limited by their by-laws to 100 active members in North America. …

Gina D’Angelo, PhD, assistant professor of biostatistics and of neurology, has received a five-year, $713,701 grant from the National Institutes of Health’s National Institute of Aging for research titled “Statistical Methods to Model Spatiotemporal Brain Functional Pathways in Dementia.” …

Cheryl Holland, education librarian at the University Libraries, has been elected to a three-year term as vice-president for programs for Wellesley College Alumnae of African Descent, an affinity group of Wellesley’s Alumnae Association. A WUSTL team lead by Nancy Marshall and Ray Barber, both project managers in Facilities Planning & Management, won Project of the Year for the South 40 Phase 1 Redevelopment at the Associated General Contractors Keystone Award Ceremony Nov. 3. The award was for the Building Construction Category between $20 million and $60 million. …

Jane Phillips-Conroy, PhD, professor of anatomy in the School of Medicine and of anthropology in Arts & Sciences, has been awarded a three-year, $340,900 collaborative research grant from the National Science Foundation for research titled “A Multidisciplinary Field Based Study of the Little-Known Kinda Baboon (Papio cynocephalus kindae).” …

Dong Qin, PhD, research associate professor of energy, environmental and chemical engineering, and Younan Xia, PhD, the James M. McKelvey Professor of Biomedical Engineering, have received a two-year, $200,000 grant from the National Science Foundation for a project titled “Nanotechnology Minor at Washington University in St. Louis.” …

David K. Tan, MD, assistant professor of emergency medicine and medical director of Washington University Emergency Medical Services (EMS), has been elected to the board of directors of the National Association of EMS Physicians.
