Steven S. Smith, PhD, the Kate M. Gregg Professor of Social Sciences, and James L. Gibson, PhD, the Sidney W. Souers Professor of Government, both in Arts & Sciences, have received a three-year, $251,525 grant from the National Science Foundation for research titled “Majority Rule and Minority Rights: A Panel Study of Democratic Values and Attitudes Toward the Senate Filibuster Among the American Public.” …

Natecia Williams, predoctoral trainee in pathology and immunology, has received a $55,649 fellowship award from the National Eye Institute for research titled “The Role of microRNAs in the Development and Differentiation of Mouse Photoreceptors.” …

Risa Zwerling Wrighton, academic adviser in the College of Arts & Sciences, received the 2011 Woman of Distinction in Social Sciences award from the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri March 29 at the Marriott St. Louis West. The Women of Distinction awards honor women for their outstanding achievements in each of the following categories: Creative Arts, Entrepreneurship, Government & Legal, Inspiration, Numbers, Practical Arts, Social Sciences, Sports & Fitness, Technology and the Sciences.
